Topher was very busy in London at the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon last month, providing 24/7 security services to the outside broadcast (OB) facilities of CTV, the company charged with managing and producing the comprehensive live television coverage of the event for the BBC.
Topher began its deployment on Friday April 22 as CTV commenced the setup of its OB trucks and compounds at the start line in Greenwich Park, at Tower Bridge and at the finish line at Canada Gate. Topher’s security presence continued overnight and on Saturday extended to encompass CTV’s OB facilities being installed at The Cutty Sark, Canary Wharf and Blackfriars, staying in position until the race start in the morning.
On the day of the marathon itself, Topher provided security personnel for four key OB locations, including the finish line at Canada Gate, Big Ben, Tower Bridge and Blackfriars.
Speaking after the event Chris Haywood, Topher’s managing director said, “Although we’re not strangers to providing security to major sporting events, the London Marathon is a huge event with hundreds of thousands of spectators and competitors spread out over ten square miles; it demanded precise coordination and communication on our part as the team was widely spread out over the capital, and our meticulous planning and close collaboration with CTV ensured a problem-free deployment.”
